Education: 

George Kiriakidis obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Salford, UK in 1979. His Ph.D. thesis was on the study of thin films utilizing Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS). His academic genealogy tree is here.

Career: 

Since 1981 he is a faculty member in the Department of Physics at the University of Crete. He initialy served as a research fellow and later as Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics / Applied Physics. He was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2009 and to a Professor in 2015. He is also a senior researcher with IESL/FORTH since 1985, and he is the founder and head of the Photonic and Electronic Materials lab, recently renamed to Transparent Conductive Materials (TCM) and devices lab. He retired in 2017.

Interests: 

Thin films, Transparent Conductive Materials and oxides with emphasis on growth, characterization and n- & p-type structures [Transparent Thin Film Transistor (TTFTs)]. Devise fabrication on rigid and flexible substrates for Flexible Electronics. Surface and interface characterization, Micro- and nano- structures and Opto-electronic applications. Growth and study of thin Film Gas Sensors, and, photo-catalytic and electro-chromic materials and devices.
