Goal of the courseUpon successful completion of the course, a student will be able to:
  • Obtain a first idea of the Photonic Science and Technology domain
  • To correlate basic principles of light waveguidance and localization with specific types of optical sensors
  • To understand transduction and the basic physical mechanisms behind the detection of physical, chemical and biological quantities
  • To familiriase with basic light propagation principles in different waveguide geometries
  • To familiarize with a number of transducers and light management devices/elements
  • To understand the rationality behind the design and development of an optical sensors, with emphasis in optical fiber sensors
  • To become familiar with a number of paradigm devices of optical sensors in fibers and waveguides for diverse applications in safety and security, health and biology, transportation and E/M fields sensing
